| Hughes Honored By CPL |
The Coastal Plain League announced Monday that Asheboro righthander Joseph Hughes has been named Rawlings Co-Pitcher of the Week for week five of the CPL season (June 28-July 4).
Hughes, a sophomore from East Carolina, was dominant in his two appearances. The 6-3, 230-pounder pitched a complete game shutout at home against Forest City on July 1in a 5-0 Copperhead win. Hughes also threw a perfect inning in a relief appearnace earlier in the week. On the week as a whole, Hughes scattered four hits in 10 innings of scoreless work, walked three and struck out 13. Opposing batters hit just .121 against him.
Joe Sclafani of Morehead City was named the Rawlings Hitter of the Week, while Hughes shared the pitching honor with Gastonia’s Robert Jeroszko. Sclafani, a sophomore at Dartmouth, batted .455 with 10 hits, four RBIs and six runs scored for the Marlins. |
